HOUSES OF LE CHEMIN DU FOULON
The timber trade and the construction of ships attract the workers in large numbers along the coves. In the middle of the 19th century, houses multiply at the foot of the escarpment.
2200 chemin du Foulon. This house is distinguished by its large size and the quality of its ornamentation. The 19th century is characterized by neoclassicism which is reflected in the regularity of symmetrically distributed openings.
LES ANSES DE SILLERY
Native Americans came fishing, the coves buzzed with activities in the 19th century, when Britain turned to draw resources to maintain its war fleet, promoting shipbuilding in Quebec. The "cageux" floated wood harvested from the Ottawa river to the coves, where it was loaded on ships bound for the British Isles.
The shoreline landscape changed in the 1930s, when the authorities allowed the installation of hydrocarbon reservoirs along the river, from the Foulon Cove to the Quebec Bridge. These developments did not seem to discourage vacationers occupying cottages or bathers frequenting the beaches of Saint-Michel and Du Foulon.
LE CHEMIN DU FOULON
A mill where one trod the wool from 1710 to 1734 to produce the fabrics of the country is at the origin of this odonym. Plotted by the mill workers, called Les Foulons, the path became the Chemin Du Foulon, then Cove Road or Chemin de l'Anse.
LA PROMENADE SAMUEL-DE-CHAMPLAIN
In the 1960s, the construction of Champlain Boulevard led to the disappearance of part of the Chemin du Foulon and the backfilling of a large artificial strip depriving walkers of access to the river.
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City in 2008, the Capitale Nationale Commission redevelops the land between a section of Champlain Boulevard and the river. Its shore becomes again the new place of walk of the population.
